Green later admitted on X (formerly Twitter) that, under the pressure of video production, he had used OpenAI's ChatGPT for script research.
In a Reddit post, he confessed that while over-reliance on AI helped him quickly access vast amounts of information, it ultimately harmed his work. He realized he had lost the freedom to delve deeply into topics himself and that the 'dopamine' derived from AI use was unhealthy. Following this introspection, and after discussions with his wife and his brother, fellow YouTuber John Green, he temporarily halted production for his personal channel.
New AI Usage Policy Announced for Content Creators
After a period of reflection following the suspension of his personal channel's production, Hank Green officially announced his new personal AI usage policy on August 7 through the sibling channel, vlogbrothers. According to this policy, no part of a script will be written, edited, or outlined by a large language model (LLM). Furthermore, the core subject of any video must always originate from a human.
His new policy also stipulates that AI-generated images or music will not be used in videos, and LLM outputs will not be trusted as primary sources of information. For educational videos, in particular, a link to primary source material must always be provided in the description to enhance information reliability. This policy does not completely ban AI use but clearly aims to ensure authenticity by keeping the core aspects of the production process under human control.
